چکیده

Bos taurus and indicus cattle subspecies present different capabilities in coping with situations of elevated temperatures, the latter being more tolerant to heat stress. Thus, some breeding programs crossed these produce a high producing yet heat-tolerant breed (Girolando). Nineteen Holstein (H100) 19 Girolando cows [(½ × Gir (H50) ¾ (H75)] similar milk production were used six-day experiment evaluate consequences stress due shade deprivation on their physiological, blood traits. Cows exposed non-shaded environment between morning (06:00h; GMT -3:00) evening milking (14:30h; access water ad libitum. Procedures conducted before milkings. Physiological parameters related mechanisms dissipation measured, as well composition. Blood traits evaluated. The temperature-humidity index (THI) was calculated. Statistical procedures included analysis variance, correlation, principal factors. THI during trial negatively impacted milk, H100, H75, H50. Alterations physiology, stability, composition, pronounced H100. presented changes physiological manner reduced capability this dealing THI. similarity levels excludes parameter justification for differences tolerance, genetic composition main reason results.

Hormone release and behavior during suckling and milking in Gir, Gir x Holstein, and Holstein cows.

There are several different milking management systems in Latin America, because Gir cattle are reputed to be easily stressed and not well adapted to machine-milking. This paper, therefore, provides an overview of hormone release and behavior during suckling and milking in Gir cows and their cross-bred offspring. Several experiments were performed to study oxytocin release during exclusive suck...

Effect of temperature-humidity index on productive and reproductive performances of Iranian Holstein cows

Calving records from April 1996 to December 2005 comprising 31863 calving events of 1173 dairy cows in a large commercial dairy herd were used to evaluate the effects of heat stress, using temperature-humidity index (THI) on milk yield and composition and reproductive performance of Holstein dairy cows under humid climatic conditions of Rasht in Iran. THI values were grouped into six groups: 30...

Furosemide Induced Electrocardiographic Alterations in High Producing Holstein Dairy Cows

Diuretics have several therapeutic advantages in dairy cows but there are different side effects such as acid-base and electrolyte imbalances which may affect the electrocardiographic parameters. Fifteen multiparous, clinically healthy, non-pregnant and high producing 4-year-old Holstein dairy cows at their early lactation period were randomly divided into 3 equal experimental groups. Furosemid...

Milk Production, Milk Fatty Acid Profiles and Blood Metabolites in Holstein Dairy Cows Fed Diets Based on Dried Citrus Pulp

The objective of the present study was to determine the effect of substitution of corn grain with dried citrus pulp (DCP) on milk composition, fatty acids profiles and blood metabolites in Holstein dairy cows. These parameters were measured in a replicated 4 × 4 latin square design experiment using eight Holstein cows. Each experimental period lasted 4 weeks. The four treatments were: control (...

Blood metabolic profiles in Uruguayan Holstein and Uruguayan Holstein x New Zealand Holstein-Friesian dairy cows

Blood metabolic profiles were determined from 40 days prepartum to 60 days postpartum in Uruguayan Holstein (UH) (n = 13) and UH x New Zealand Holstein-Friesian first cross (UH-NZHF) (n = 13) cows with seven in each group experiencing their second lactation (L2) and six experiencing their third lactation (L3). Non-esterified fatty acids increased around calving and tended to be greater in UH-L3...
